Aloha, I’m Stacey
You might know me from social media or seeing me testify at the Maui County Council or walking around Makawao town.
I’m a freelance Communications Professional and Community Advocate. Which means I play around with words and tell stories about local issues that are important to me or I have a kuleana to protect.
Right now, those issues and their affiliated acronyms are:
Water Rights (EMWA, DWS, DHHL) - Wikiwai.org
Energy Equity (UERP, PUC, HECO) - 2nd Life Solar Project Form
REAL Affordable Housing (too many to list, but check out Maui Tomorrow and Lahaina Strong)
Protecting Iwi Kupuna (Malama Kakanilua vs Grand Wailea Resort)
Supporting Ahupua’a systems (Maui Grassroots Collective, Na Wahine Ko’i, Electing Grassroots Candidates)
One day I will build out this website to be a hub of all the work I do in Community Advocacy, Citizen Journalism, and Newsfluencer kind of things. Most of my work is volunteer or discounted, so if you would like to support my work financially or support my coffee habit, my venmo is below.
My professional background and degree is in Communication Studies - so I am available for contract work related to any kind of digital media (graphic design, social media, webinar facilitation) and traditional media (press releases, communications strategy). I also have experience in grants management and administrative assistance. I am picky about my projects and they must align with my values to protect ‘āina, wai, kai, and kanaka maoli.
Just.Actually is a play on 2 “filler” words I use quite often that can mean nothing and everything:
Just - as in “just the facts” or “I’m just kidding”… often used to minimize the impact. I use this as a way to distinguish what is FACT
Actually - as in.. “Actually… the impact of this is a lot more complex if you look at the bigger picture”. often used to correct misinformation or add nuance. I use this as a way to distinguish an OPINION.
For now, it’s best just to follow me on any of my social media accounts or send an email to stacey@justactually.com
